The chair.

I finally finished it! About a year ago I came up with the idea of making a chair out of cans. At first, the idea was to make the entire chair out of cans only. Then I discovered the existence of  “recycle design”. I learned how designers make the most beautiful designs using recycled products. One of the most interesting designers would definitely be Max McMurdo with his bath tub couches.

If you’ve never heard of recycle design, Google it. You don’t want to miss out on so many beautiful designs, which (most of them) you can also make YOURSELF!

That brings me to another topic. Do it yourself. It is a super popular concept these days. And that is so fun about recycle design. Most of the designs are made for everyone. Designed to make one yourself. These days, design is for everyone and everyone can be a designer. And that, ladies an gentleman, was one of the main goals I wanted to achieve in  my chair design. Something that makes the chair YOUR design.

So lets stop talking and start showing. This is what I came up with. You can buy this chair as a package. You’ll get the wood only. What YOU have to do is recycle cans. The chair is built to use 6 cans per layer, but if you want to use up all space, you can. You can paint the cans. You can paint the wood. Or you can just keep it simple. Its YOUR design.

For the people living in Holland. There will be an exhibition in Hilversum February 8th 2013. My chair will be exhibited and sold. Well, ill try to sell it… if possible.

Beginners guide–New years firework photography.

I have been writing about the basics of the analogue photography. About film, aperture and shutter speed. If you know how those 3 things work, and know how to use them on your analogue camera, you’re ready to learn some more things that make photography fun. Since new year is coming up I thought it would be fun to work on some firework picture skills. If you haven’t read the basics and you want to know more, here are the basics:

If you’re not in the mood to read all those post, I suggest to only read part three. Its about shutter speed. Which is important in this post. If you don’t know how it works, you wont understand what I ‘m telling you guys in this post.

 

New year is coming up and you’ve probably bought some firework to celebrate it. Ever tried to take a picture of the firework with your little pocketsize digital camera? There is a big chance you never get the whole explosion of colors and lights on your picture. Why? Its because your camera probably doesn’t has shutter speed options. It takes one or two seconds for the firework to fully explode in the air. Your digital camera probably takes such a small shutter speed it doesn’t get the full beautiful firework picture you want. So take out your dusty old vintage camera and a tripod. Put roll of 100 or 200 ISO film in your camera and go outside to take some pretty awesome firework action pictures!

 

So how does it work:

 

Take your camera outside. Put it on your tripod and make sure it cant move when you want to tae a picture. Look through your lens and wait the first few times to check if the firework is completely in your viewfinder. If your composition is good, check your settings. Put the focus on infinity.  The setting looks like a little 8, put sideways.

Then check your shutter speed. It has to be on the B setting, which means that the shutter speed will be as long as you push your shutter button.

 

Now you’re ready. Wait for the firework to come in your viewfinder. The second you see it popping in sight, press the shutter button. Keep pushing it until you got the full explosion on there.

 

Now you have captured the firework from the beginning till the end and you will have a beautiful picture!

Analogue #5–The Praktica TL-1000—GIVEAWAY?!

 

 

 

It’s time for a new analogue camera to show you guys! This time it’s the Praktica TL-1000. This camera is not that old. It started producing in 1980 and stopped producing in 1984. This is a beautiful camera to look at! Real eye candy. Though, I found it disappointing the black grip is made of plastic. The whole camera feels a bit like a toy camera because of that plastic.

I Do love the simplicity of the camera. It has just a few settings, but is able to make some pretty good pictures. (for what I have seen, I haven’t got the pictures back from development). I have been looking for lenses for this camera in thrift shops. A good plus for this camera. There are loads of lenses in thrift shops everywhere!

Tip: If you want to buy lenses, bring your camera with you, and fit them on your camera body. Do not buy them without fitting. Secondly, never forget to check if there are scratches on the lens. If there are scratches, just use the same method which I had told you guys in my post about how to buy the right vintage camera. FIRST ask how much it costs, THEN tell the owner it’s broken. You’ll end up paying a lot less.  Why buy a lens with scratches? well, if you got yourself one for a small price (I would give 1,50 euro’s for a broken lens)  You can take pictures with them, you’ll get some cool effects. Here is a picture taken with a scratched lens (there is some dust on there too)

Analogue picture time!

Today I got the pictures back from development! These pictures where the first ones from my Olympus OM-10. I;’m so happy with the outcome!

I have had a school assignment for my art class. I made a series of pictures that all had to have some kind of emotion in them. THANKS Ruben, for letting me put water in your eyes and make you cry! haha!

I actually asked Ruben to shout as loud as possible in the picture above!

The other pictures are just some random pictures I took to get the 25 pictures I needed before I could take out the roll. For the analogue people out there: I used a Lomography ladygrey 35mm 100ISO roll, and had my diaphragm on 5.6!

My summer in analogue pictures

I was thinking about making my blog post about my vacation and show some pictures of my trip to Turkey.  But since I got all my analogue pictures at once on my mail I decided to make one big story covering my whole summer. All the pictures on this blog post (except for the first two) where made with my analogue camera’s. Two Olympus trip 35’s and one Kodak ektralite 600.

So what did I actually do this summer? Lets start at the beginning of it. The last few weeks of school. The weather as getting warmer and nicer. the vacation was so close nobody could concentrate on learning and going to school. For me, the first real summer day was when we made a trip to “De Strook”. The teachers had all decided we could get free from school and all hang out together and have some fun. We had a nice barbecue and went swimming together.


So for me this was my first summer day. It was also the first day of warm weather (about 25 degrees centigrade). 
Then the actual vacation begun and it started good. We – my mother brother and boyfriend and I- had a few trips to the beach in “Zandvoort”. I had a really good time there. We normally don’t make any trips to the beach, and I hadn’t seen de beach for over a few years then. This summer we made quite some more beach trips to Zandvoort.   We had a lot of fun!

The last highlight of my summer was my vacation to Turkey. I had never been to Turkey before. I went together with my boyfriend. Who came with the fantastic idea to go somewhere for a week. We had found this amazing hotel in the old center of Antalya. If you ever plan on going to Antalya. The Alp Pasa Botique Hotel is really beautiful and affordable too!














So that was, in a short story, what my summer was like.

Thrift shop Saturday

This morning I was kinda bored. I was lying in bed until 11. Sometimes I have those days when I wake up in the morning and just don't know what to do. Eventually, I got myself out of bed and took a shower. Than I realized it was SATURDAY! Which means the thrift shop is open!

The thrift shop is my holy place! I buy junk there and transform it into things I can actually use. I've never came back from a thrift shop without buying something. Especially analogue camera's. I love those!

So I had decided to go to Breukelen and visit the thrift shop there. But I didn't feel like going alone, so I Facebooked my friend Pien, she came with me together her brother Sam. Pien and Sam wanted to buy an old analogue camera so I helped them find a good one in the thrift shop. They both got an analogue 35mm camera.

There where no other fancy old looking vintage rusty camera's for me to buy but I found something else. I found a rasp...YES I bought a rasp, because they're cool. But now it's not a rasp anymore.

If you want to do this yourself, notice you have to use paint that holds on to metal. I used spray paint for bikes.

Analogue #1 Thanks mom!

YAY! I just got home from school and my mom was waiting for me in the kitchen. She had made a coffee for me and had this look in her eyes. That look mothers have when they have something for you they know you're going to like.
My mother gave me a leather bag, which was quite heavy and asked me to open it, and so I did.

At first a dusty smell came out of the bag and then I saw what was in it. My mom just got me a new (old) camera! It is a praktika TL1000. It is a 35 mm camera.

I have been collecting old cameras for a few months now and I have a total of 15 cameras. I love the grain and color the pictures of an analogue camera have.

It all began with my olympus trip 35. I had bought it in the local thrift shop for 3 euro's and just wanted to try it so I bought a 35 mm film for it. When I developed the pictures I was sold! The Thing I like the most is that it will always be a surprise whether your pictures look good. And, don't forget the lightleaks.Some of my 110 mm cameras get those lightleaks, but I have one on my olympus trip film too. ( I think something went wrong during developing).
